“I AM HAPPY OUT HERE. MESSY HAIR, DIRTY FEET & WILD WATER ON MY SKIN. OUT HERE WITH THE WILD THINGS; THIS IS WHERE I BELONG” – BROOKE HAMPTON
Sydney is a city with no shortage of natural beauty and an abundance of coastal walking tracks and trails to suit everyone. These 5 scenic coastal walks are sure to spark a life-long love for nature (or nurture an already existing one!). What are you waiting for? Put on your walking shoes and start exploring!
BARRENJOEY HEAD
Located north of Palm Beach, Barrenjoey Head is a short walk (800m ramp or 400m of stairs) up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse offering stunning ocean views. The top of the hill is a great spot for a picnic and whale watching (from May to November).
In 2013 there was a large bushfire that destroyed a large amount of surrounding bushland that is still recovering, the lighthouse was saved but is currently closed to the public.
BONDI TO BRONTE
Known as one of the most iconic walking trails in Sydney, the Bondi to Bronte walk including Tamarama & Mackenzies Bay, offers panoramic views of the South Pacific Ocean and coastal cliffs.
There are great vantage points to stop along the way to stop for a picnic or spot some migrating whales and dolphins.
THE SPIT BRIDGE TO MANLY
Boasting native bushland, the Spit Bridge to Manly is a 10KM bush-trail offering panoramic ocean views and secluded beaches.
Where you decide to park is up to you as there is parking in both Manly and at the Spit Bridge. If you only want to do 10KM, there is a bus that can drop you back near your car from either end. I recommend starting at the Spit because Manly is a great place to stop and refuel before heading back.
CREMORNE POINT
Located in the lower north shore, Cremorne Point offers a scenic circuit walk along the foreshore starting at the Cremorne Point Wharf. It’s only a short 3KM walk, but the views looking back towards the beautiful city of Sydney are breathtaking.
The MacCallum Pool is a local hot spot as you can swim laps against the backdrop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and CBD. It is free to use, but is often closed for cleaning and maintenance, so best to jump on the council website to ensure it’s open when you plan your next visit.
THE SYDNEY COASTAL TRACK
The Coastal Track in Sydney’s Royal National Park is a picturesque 26KM trail between Otford and Bundeena. It is often completed as a multi-day hike, but can be completed in a day if you’re super fit and able to run sections.
It can be tackled in sections if doing the whole track at once seems a bit daunting – Otford to Burning Palms Beach/Figure 8 Pools, Garie Beach to Wattamolla, Wattamolla to Bundeena.
What a wonderful scenic snapshot of Sydney. Such a gorgeous place.

Can’t wait to travel to your lovely land. If you ever make it to the U.S., come be my guest at the Len Foote Hike Inn, a backcountry lodge deep in a national forest.
