PHOTO DIARY: HA LONG BAY, VIETNAM

“I SEE MY PATH, BUT I DON’T KNOW WHERE IT LEADS. NOT KNOWING WHERE I’M GOING IS WHAT INSPIRES ME TO TRAVEL IT.” – ROSALIA DE CASTRO

Recognised internationally for its emerald waters and thousands of limestone islands topped with greenery, Ha Long Bay is a sight to behold.I spent 3 days on a Vietnamese junk boat where I had opted to go kayaking, hiking and cave exploring whilst simultaneously enjoying some of the world’s most spectacular scenery.

I hope the photos from my time in Ha Long Bay inspire others to get out and explore for themselves. Ha Long Bay is an easy bus ride from Hanoi and the options for multi-day cruises are vast and affordable.

  1. Great pics of Halong Bay. I’m planning to visit this December. How was your experience on the junk boat ? Any tips would be helpful 🙂

    1. Thank you! I had a wonderful time on the Junk Boat! Don’t let the name deter you, they are actually beautiful boats inside. Very spacious, very comfortable and they look great! If you’re only on the boat for one or two nights, I’d recommend just taking a carry on bag rather than your entire suitcase if possible. My time on the junk boat was definitely a highlight of my trip! 🙂

Awesome shots! I love the ones that capture how busy it is. There’s something to be said for capturing spots as they actually are (as opposed to empty as we sometimes wish they were).

I can’t wait to get there and experience it for myself!

Whatever that fish dish is, I want it for my next five meals. Great photos, Cass. I’m forwarding this on to my friend who’s going to Vietnam this winter.

And thanks so much for swinging by my site.

Your pictures are stunning! I need to step up my photography game- may I inquire what camera you use?

    1. I use an Olympus E-PL7. I absolutely love it! Great for traveling. It has interchangeable lenses but not as bulky as a SLR. Has a selfie cam feature as well – just for a bit of fun!

Excellent…and suitable for a beginner? I’m only used to snapping pics with my trusty Iphone haha

      2. Definitely! I’m not very camera smart. I use my phone for photos as well haha but I felt it was time for an upgrade and I think this is a good option if you want good quality photos and not a big bulky camera 🙂

    1. Oh thank you 🙂 We were incredibly lucky with the weather! For the entire time we were traveling in South East Asia we only have one day of rain in Hanoi!
